Eight Years In, XT Exchange’s Job Keeps Changing

Crypto prices and activity diverged in 2026. For XT Exchange, eight years in, that raises questions about what users need from an account and how the platform must adapt.

During the 2026 downturn, the total value of the crypto market fell by roughly half. On-chain economic activity declined by 1.6 percent, according to Chainalysis’s 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index. The report contrasted that result with the 2022–23 cycle, when a smaller price decline was accompanied by a 23 percent fall in activity.

The divergence suggests that some uses of crypto have become less closely tied to market prices. A person sending money across a border, settling a payment, or holding a stablecoin balance may have a reason to stay active through a downturn. For exchanges, that makes it worth asking which needs an account serves when the prospect of rising prices is no longer enough to bring people in.

XT Exchange was founded in 2018, when the basic questions facing an exchange centered on which assets people could buy, at what spread, and whether they could withdraw them. Those remain the foundation of the service. The intervening years have added more things people can do with an account. A platform supporting payments or event markets must now consider how those services fit alongside trading and how to explain the differences between them. The same account has to make sense to people approaching it with different purposes.

Spot bitcoin exchange-traded products began trading on US stock exchanges in January 2024, placing bitcoin exposure inside conventional brokerage accounts. Investors could approach the asset through financial firms they already used. Crypto exchanges were now operating alongside that route to market, with an additional reason to consider the expectations people brought from other financial services.

Stablecoins widened the account’s role in another direction. A balance used to settle trades could also be held, transferred or spent. People using it for cross-border payments or savings brought different priorities from someone seeking a trading position. The exchange still had to support a market, while also considering how a balance could become useful outside it.

XT Exchange’s product additions in 2026 illustrate how those possibilities are changing its offering. In January, the platform listed tokenized equity products on its spot market. An event-market venue followed in May, and USDT-margined perpetual futures referencing US-listed companies in July. Alongside spot and margin trading, XT Pay lets eligible users in supported markets pay merchants from a USDT balance.

Supporting that range of uses involves work beyond listing another instrument. An event market relies on a resolution process outside the exchange, so settlement depends on how the outcome is established. A payment product involves providers and local networks, linking an exchange balance with a merchant’s payment arrangements. Those relationships become part of what the platform has to manage. For users, the relevant questions also become more specific: who determines an event’s outcome, what happens when it is resolved, and how a merchant payment is completed. Providing the feature brings a responsibility to explain those arrangements.

Equity-referencing derivatives bring a different obligation: explaining the position the user is taking. Exposure to a company’s share price does not provide ownership of its shares. Making that distinction clear belongs alongside the familiar work of handling trades and withdrawals. As the product range grows, the exchange has more kinds of information to communicate as well as more services to operate.

Arman Achmed, COO of XT Exchange, puts the operating rule plainly: “Don’t assume the next cycle will reward what worked in the last one — stay curious, keep learning, and be ready to change your mind.”

That rule is what eight years are for. Experience does not make the next market predictable. It does leave a platform with a clearer sense of which decisions held up, which needs persisted through a downturn, and where the next set of questions is likely to come from. The 2026 divergence confirmed the direction: the activity that stayed was attached to a purpose, and purpose does not switch off when charts turn down.

For an exchange entering its ninth year, relevance is therefore not something a bull market confers and a downturn withdraws. It is the result of continuing to answer the question users are actually asking, and of being ready for that question to change again in 2027. XT Exchange has spent eight years treating it as a live problem. That is the habit it is carrying into the ninth.
